wheelpilot
I am in the market for a wheelpilot for my 1988 37' Legend. Should I go with the st4000 or the Simrad wp30.Bill, I do not know about the Simrad unit, but I have the ST 4000 + on my 34 and under heavy load in a blow, the 4000 + works extra hard, making it difficult to stay on course without it making constant and sometimes severe adjustments. The 4000 is for boats up to 15 or 16,000 lbs. Looking at the weight of the boat when fully loaded with all the cruising gear, I am convinced that the unit is too close to capacity to be able to work easily. No problem when it's dead calm however. If you go with the Raymarine, go for a heavier unit. I have a friend that has a 5000 on a Bayfield 36 and his works like a charm under any condition. Check out the capacity of the Simrad as well. Good luck
'Ask all sailors', about the 4000. I went with the 6000 on my 34 and never looked back.
