Well..... This morning Started out as it normally does. Right up till my brother found my 21quot; Spotted Gar (named Jaws) on the ground by my stock tank. No top on the tank and he jumped out in the night.
I'm going to put a cast net over my tank till I can find some pond netting. Anyone know where to find it in stores?
R.I.P Jaws.... you will be greatly missed....

Sorry about ur loss, I love gars so much.
sorry for your loss, there should always be a secure cover kept on any fish tank...just about all fishes are good jumpers, especially gars. secondly, you should NEVER release a pet fish back into the wild...i wasn't clear from your post whether you released it into an outdoor pond enclosure or released into the wild...but because of disease and several other factors a pet fish should be sold off, given away, or euthanized instead of being released into the wild--

This guys caught those fish and then put them in his stock tank so there used to being in the wild.
They are wild Gars.... caught in the same creek they where released.

So what if it was wild and released in the same spot... If you capture a fish and keep it in captivity it should not be released. These fish once captured and taken into captivity are biologically dead to that area and should never be released. If you can not or wish not to keep an animal then kill it or pass it to someone else (Quite a few here I bet would love a real spotted). If you wish to not keep an animal full term then simply enjoy it after you catch it and let it go right then and there....
There are way too many issues with the release of a fish kept in captivity to risk any of them. Just do not do it and play it safe.
